How to get to Poland.

    The quickest way is to fly, the nearest airport which serves North East Poland is located at Warsaw. You can book on traditional airlines such as B.A or LOT or go for the ever increasing number of budget airlines which operate services to Poland. Below are a few examples;

     This is not a final list but these are the present airlines on the market, please note there is only one airport in Warsaw. Etiuda terminal is located a few metres away from the main terminal. The budget airlines all use Etiuda. To get to the centre of town, you have a choice of bus (number 175), this is the cheapest method, it also drops you off at the Marriot hotel which is located opposite the central railway station. You can catch a taxi, but make sure you order one from an official taxi rank and not some private operator who approaches you as you enter the arrivals hall. The fare to the centre should cost no more than 10-12 Euro. The other option is catch a hotel bus, once again the Marriot bus is a good option, the fare should be no more than 5 Euro per person. You do not need to stay at this hotel in order to use this service.

    The other option to get to Poland is by train, there was a direct sleeper service from Brussels to Warsaw, unfortunately that has now been withdrawn. You can still get here by train but this now involves several transfers.

   Finally one can drive, driving non stop will take about 24 hours, approximately 12 hours from the French ports to the German-Polish border and then a further 12 hours to Augustow. If you go via the Hook of Holland, you will save yourself about 4 hours.

   If you arrive at the airport you have a choice of getting to Augustow by train or we will come and collect you by minibus. Below are train times from Warsaw to Augustow

  Departing Warsaw    Arriving Augustow

07.10

11.57

13.10

17.56

15.10

20.15

22.06

    The above timetable is liable to change but I will keep you updated, the fare for a second class ticket is approximately 11 Euro, for first class approximately 16 Euro. Polish trains as a whole are comfortable and reliable and run on time. It might be worth remembering that you can also buy train tickets at the airport, this is  probably a better option than standing in a long queue at the central station. Once you come out of the arrivals hall , there is a travel agency on your right which sells train tickets. The journey itself is very relaxing, once the train leaves the big city you will start to realise what the rural landscape looks like and the closer you get to Augustow you may even catch a glimpse of a few cranes feeding in the meadows.
